23/10/2008 - Rackspace Hosting acquires SliceHost and JungleDisk
Shortly before Microsoft's Azure announcement, Rackspace stole some thunder by revealing the acquisition of Xen-based virtual machine hosting company Slicehost and cloud storage company Jungle Disk. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The leap into the cloud hosting arena complements Rackspace's existing managed hosted services and is just one of a whole host of recent announcements that are all part of the hype surrounding cloud hosting.

With the acquisitions and deeper dive into cloud computing, Rackspace plans to integrate their technology into its hosting portfolio over time. Jungle Disk's technology allows customers to share an unlimited volume of cloud storage between multiple users through a secure, mountable network drive and automatic backup. Slicehost's technology provides on-demand, virtualized servers.

With the current costs of shared hosting i'd think that dedicated web hosting could come down just a bit hardware isn't that expensive it come down to overhead for data center leases/loans.
